Artist Akilah Johnson

Google’s latest home page doodle came courtesy of Akilah Johnson, 15, a Washington, D.C. high school sophomore. On Monday, March 21, 2016, Johnson beat out more than 100,000 other young artists to win this year’s Doodle 4 Google contest, a competition to design the sometimes playful, sometimes provocative images that often grace the Google’s Web page.

Johnson’s “My Afrocentric Life,” topped four other national finalists. Johnson is both the first African-American Doodle 4 Google winner, as well as the first from the District of Columbia.
