Using History To Illustrate Maps
I explore historical sites and places of local interest through illustrated maps. Did you know jazz piano legend, Dave Brubeck, was born and raised in Concord, California? Did you know Italians migrated to Concord and planted grapes to make wine? Concord was on the brink of becoming part of Northern California’s wine country. Prohibition put a stop to wine making. The vines were destroyed.
Sometimes I explore cities and towns online. When I researched the map for Tulsa, Oklahoma, I was surprised to learn it has the second highest concentration of Art Deco architecture behind New York City in the United States. A local university in Tulsa has its own style of architecture called God Mod.
When I feel restless, I jump into my car to visit a nearby city or go online to see cities and towns I’d like to see.
