Portrait Of Owner Of Lucca Ravioli Company

I took a different approach with an illustrated portrait by placing it in a comic, my favorite medium. I love graphic novels and limited series comics. A couple of favorites are "My Brother's Husband", "The Seasons Have Teeth", and "God Country".

In the 1990s I lived in the Mission of San Francisco. For dinner I walked down the street for ravioli from Lucca Ravioli Company. It opened in 1925. It was a family business that was passed down from generation to generation. The pasta was made fresh daily then frozen. Each box had cooking instructions printed on the lid. In 1966 at age 11 Michael Feno (below, 3rd panel) started working at Lucca Ravioli Company. He was the last generation in the family to own and operate it. Feno’s kids were not interested in taking over the business. In 2019 after 94 years in business Lucca Ravioli Company closed and sold its buildings. Later it was occupied by an art studio until a car crashed into the storefront. A technology company opened a pop-up shop where neighborhood businesses could receive consulting services.
