How I Created A Portrait Of Jessica Video

This is Jessica. She didn’t know she would be a subject for a portrait or a process video of the portrait.

The photographer shared a photo during a group chat with Jessica. Her image motivated me to create a portrait. Before I posted the process video which was generated by Procreate I asked her permission to share it on my social media.

My initial response to making a portrait is dread. The first sketches and marks don’t look good because proportions are out of whack. I push through the frustration of making more sketches and by building and layering sketches and color.

Making portraits isn’t easy. I try not to compare myself to other artists who’ve made portraits for years. I’ve been making this type of art for about 2 years. I know I have to commit to my art practice to get better. Still, I finish a piece with a feeling of success.
