I became a fan of artist, Christo after watching a film about his installation, Running Fence. It was 24.5 miles long and 18 feet high. It extended east-west near Freeway 101, north of San Francisco on the private properties of 59 ranchers, following the rolling hills and dropping down to the Pacific Ocean at Bodega Bay.
In the winter of 2005 I had the good fortune to see The Gates by Christo. The structures were placed along 23 miles of the pathways in Central Park in NYC. It featured 7,503 steel gates, each 16 feet tall, draped with saffron-colored nylon fabric panels. It highlighted the park’s meandering footpaths and microclimates. I’ll never forget the experience.
Christo created massive, temporary art installations like Running Fence and The Gates.
